History of Riads
Riads are the hidden mansions and palaces of Marrakech. They were originally the traditional courtyarded homes of the wealthy and were based on the Roman villa. The principle of the construction was to allow privacy and cooler temperatures inside.
The fourth largest city in Morocco, desert-bound Marrakech is famed for its street vendors and brightly coloured souks, where you’ll find everything from incense to herbs, spices, olives and fabrics. A curious mix of narrow winding streets, grand palaces and stately mosques, Marrakech offers a true taste of Morocco’s unique and exotic north African culture.
Marrakech never fails to mesmerise all the senses - exotic sights, sounds and smells around every corner. The city has great style, be it the opulence and luxury of the spas and hammams, superb restaurants, verdant gardens and beautiful architecture or its sense of heritage and hospitality.
The city is an ideal base to explore the Atlas Mountains an hour to the south, the desert to the east and the coast to the west. Marrakech is a short flight from the UK, just 3hrs from London, yet it feels like a completely different world.
