This beautifully renovated town house on the Greek Island of Poros has 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large open plan living space and a sunny balcony with stunning sea views. The tavernas and shops along the bustling harbour front are a 5min walk, and the beach just 5 mins beyond. It’s the perfect lock-&-leave home and a great letting proposition.
The traditional townhouse, recently renovated and has a light, spacious feel. The open plan living space has french doors that open out onto a sunny balcony that has lovely views of the bay - it’s a great spot to watch the boats coming and going from the harbour.
The accommodation is arranged over two floors. On the first floor is the spacious living space and kitchen with vaulted ceilings and a large open fireplace and a balcony with those beautiful views. There is also a double bedroom and bathroom on this floor.
The ground floor has the second bedroom with an ensuite shower room. This floor has a separate entrance and is accessed via the courtyard. The two floors are not connected internally, so the layout would probably not suit those with small children. However, for teenagers and guests, it’s an arrangement that offers independent space and privacy with a good-sized communal living area. The location is ideal too - a quiet spot in town, yet the hustle and bustle of the harbour and local beaches are just a short walk away.
The property is currently a successful holiday let with a well established team of staff managing changeovers and maintenance. If you were looking for a bolt-hole by the sea that you could rent out when not in residence, this house is all ready to go!
Poros is about 30 nautical miles from the principal port of Piraeus in the Saronic gulf. Being so close to the Peloponnese mainland, and the nearest airport at Athens, Poros is easily accessible by road or sea. You can choose whether to hire a car and drive the 2.5hours to Poros (via 5min ferry). Alternatively, you can board one of the frequent buses from the airport to Piraeus harbour and take the 1 hour hydrofoil to the island. The house is up a steep hill from the harbour, but if the hill looks a little challenging with your bags, you can get a taxi that will take you to within a few steps of the house.
Poros is, in fact, two islands, Sferia and Kalavria. The house is situated in Poros Town, with its harbour, shops and tavernas, which is the hub of the smaller island, Sferia. The larger island, Kalavria, is a short hop across a canal bridge and is rather more wild, with large areas of pine forest, stunning beaches and the ancient site of Poseidon Temple.
Poros is very popular with yachtsmen as the harbour and bay are calm and sheltered. It also provides a convenient stopping point for yachts coming from the mainland marinas en route to the islands of the Aegean so there’s always some interesting boat manoeuvring to enjoy watching from the balcony.
Exploring the beaches of the island is great fun, and there is no shortage to choose from! Neorio, Love Bay, Russian Bay, Askeli and Monasteri are all recommended and are served by the local buses and taxis from the harbour. Alternatively, you can get off the beaten track and hire a car, bicycle, scooter or quad bike and reach the far side of the island and discover secret coves and beautiful swimming spots.
