The Ground Floor

The entrance hall takes you past the kitchen and into the bright spacious patio courtyard, which is richly decorated with beautiful tiles, white plaster pillars and arches. There is a traditional plunge pool as well as a covered, summer seating area providing plenty of room to relax with a book and sip a mint tea in the heat of the day. At one side of this traditional inner courtyard is sitting room and cosy fireplace and at the other is a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.

The Riad is being used as a restaurant at present, however the arrangement of the rooms and communal spaces is that of a classical Riad, and the property could easily revert back to the enormous family home it once was.

The Riad has a fully equipped professional kitchen on the ground floor, and at present it prepares 50 to 60 meals a day. It could even be used for cookery classes. A definite plus for the property.

The first floor

The first floor is decorated with some exceptional classic Moorish architecture, with traditional white arches and strong pillars, carved wooden doors and beautiful traditional tiles on the floor. Some of the rooms have ornate decoration around the ceiling and coloured glass in the windows.

There are three en suite rooms on this level, each generous and well appointed. The bedrooms come off the gallery/terrace which surrounds the inner courtyard. The coursives are particularly wide in this riad and make it a fantastic place to sit and enjoy the lovely views around and within the Riad, with the light changing throughout the day.

There is also a large room currently being used as a boutique and an office.

Up another level is the first terrace which is both spacious and sunny, a great place work on your tan in total discretion. There are a further two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms here too.

The roof terrace is wonderful – with lots of space in sun and shade, there are 360 degree views all over Marrakech Medina and to the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains to the south. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail and soak in the atmosphere as the call to prayer rings out over the Kasbah, Marrakech Medina.

History of Riads

Riads are the hidden mansions and palaces of Marrakech. They were originally the traditional courtyarded homes of the wealthy and were based on the Roman villa. The principle of the construction was to allow privacy and cooler temperatures inside.
